X (Twitter) Image Resizer and Crop Tool

Pick an image and a size. Drag to choose the crop, check the guides, and save a file that matches X's dimensions and file-size limits.

Stays on your device. JPEG, PNG, WebP or a GIF's first frame.

Private by design: everything happens on your device.

What it does

The image sizer draws your picture onto a canvas at the chosen X size (for example 1500×500 for a header or 400×400 for a profile photo), lets you move and zoom the crop, and saves a JPEG or PNG under X's file-size limit.

What sizes does the tool make?

Six presets, two of which (header and profile photo) are X's own recommendations. The others are widely used sizes that display well; X accepts other shapes for post images too.

Preset Pixels Shape Limit used Source
Post image, landscape 1600 × 900 16:9 5 MB Common practice
Post image, square 1080 × 1080 1:1 5 MB Common practice
Post image, portrait 1080 × 1350 4:5 5 MB Common practice
Header (banner) 1500 × 500 3:1 5 MB X recommends 1500 × 500
Profile photo 400 × 400 1:1 2 MB X recommends 400 × 400; 2 MB maximum
Link preview image 1200 × 628 1.91:1 5 MB Common practice for link cards

X's Help Center says photos can be up to 5 MB and accepts JPEG, PNG and GIF. It gives no separate size limit for headers, so the tool uses 5 MB there as a safe ceiling.

How do I control the crop?

  1. Choose a file or drop it on the box.
  2. Pick a preset.
  3. Fill and crop covers the whole frame; drag the preview (or use the arrow keys) to move it, and use Zoom to tighten it.
  4. Fit whole image shows everything and fills the gaps with the border colour you choose.
  5. Press Save image. JPEGs are re-compressed step by step until they're under the limit.

What do the guides show?

  • Profile photo: the circle X displays; the dark corners won't be seen.
  • Header: an orange circle where the profile photo can overlap, and a dashed box that stays visible on most screens.
  • Post images: a rule-of-thirds grid for placing your subject.

The header guides are approximate because X lays out profiles differently in its apps and on the web, and between screen sizes.

Why does it warn about enlarging?

If the source is smaller than the target (say a 300-pixel logo for a 1500-pixel header), the image has to be scaled up and will look soft. Use a bigger original if you can, or Fit whole image with a border instead of stretching it.

FAQ

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. It's read and redrawn by your browser and saved straight back to your device. You can turn off your connection after the page loads and it still works.

JPEG or PNG?

JPEG for photos: smaller files and X's limits are easier to meet. PNG for screenshots, charts and anything with sharp text. If a PNG comes out over the limit, switch to JPEG.

Why does my header look cut off on my phone?

X's apps and website don't show the header at exactly the same proportions, and the profile photo sits over part of it. Keep important text in the middle and away from the lower left, which is what the dashed guides show.

Can it resize GIFs?

It saves the first frame as a still image. Animated GIFs need a dedicated GIF editor to keep the animation.
